The black pond
five c-prints 120 x 105 cm
installation view at Kiasma, together with the work The Unreflected, Helsingfors 2010
In the photographic installation the Black pond the pose of the model is taken from Caravaggio´s painting Narcissus. The painting is based on the myth of the young man who falls in obsessed love with his own reflection in the water. In contrast to the painting the photographs shows only the mirrored image of Narcissus, not himself. In the floating unstable surface the image of the face changes between stillness and disintegration, subversive distortions of the identity in relation to time. |
