Christmas Island (The M/V Tampa incident)
In 26 aug 2001 Norweigan Cargo ship M/V Tampa rescues 483 boat refugees at sea. When the Tampa reaches the closest harbour, Christmas Island, they are not allowed to embark and forced away. When no other country accepts the ship with it's asylum seekers, The Tampa enters a state of limbo, cirkling araound the island on the border to the territorial waters. |
